BARRINGTON WRIGHT

Barrington Wright was a Jamaican-born author whose writing was shaped by a lifetime of lived experience across Jamaica, England, Canada, and the United States. His work reflects a deep understanding of cultural identity, social struggle, resilience, and the everyday realities of ordinary people striving for dignity and progress. Drawing from personal observation and experience, Wright’s storytelling captures the human condition with honesty, insight, and compassion. Raised in Jamaica, Wright’s early life exposed him to the social and economic challenges that later informed his literary voice. His journey took him beyond the island to England, Canada, and eventually the United States, where he continued his education and professional development. He pursued formal studies in Kingston, London, Montreal, and New York City, earning a postgraduate degree in Public Administration.

Wright devoted much of his professional life to public service. He retired as an Assistant Commissioner at New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, where he played a role in addressing complex urban and social issues. His career reflected his enduring commitment to community development, social responsibility, and public welfare-values that also influenced his writing
